Remote Specialty Therapy for OCD, Panic & Travel Anxiety in the UK, Netherlands, Germany, throughout Europe

Those who experience persistent anxiety face dual challenges: symptoms that limit their lives and the stigma of having a mental condition. Some are fortunate and can share their fears and suffering with compassionate family or trusted others but many can lack this support and suffer in the shadows, alone without compass or companion.

National health mental health services only offer short-term general mental health treatment have strict gate-keeping protocols for referrals to specialty mental health services. Unfortunately, OCD and certain anxiety disorders such as travel agoraphobia and fear of flying are only effectively treated by specialists and often require longer-term treatment.

Most private therapists are generalists, who are often not qualified to treat most complex anxiety disorders. Thus finding affordable, private specialists, qualified to treat OCD and complex anxiety is often very challenging and frustrated, leaving many sufferers to fend for themselves without treatment, as best they can.

Impact of Anxiety Disorders

The negative consequences of anxiety are very underestimated. In Europe, anxiety disorders are among the leading causes of disability and lower quality of life such as:

  • Relationship strain
  • Social interactions
  • Restricted lifestyle
  • Level of education

  • Missed work day
  • Reduced productivity
  • Early retirement
  • Ability to travel

Few Seek or Receive Treatment

In spite of the huge negative impact of anxiety on health and overall quality of life, in Europe, only a small percentage of people with anxiety receive treatment. According to large population studies only 33% of those with a clinical anxiety disorder actually receive services, and even fewer are treated by a trained specialist.

According to the World Health Organization the main reasons for this high treatment gap are:

  • Failure to recognize symptoms as a treatable disorder.
  • Stigma.
  • Cost or access issues.
  • Long wait lists.
  • Preference for self-help before seeking professional care.

Becoming a Client

Phone Screening

To understand your specific needs and whether we might be a fit to work together, I offer a free phone screening. I gather basic information about the condition and symptoms for which you are seeking treatment, why you have made this decision now, co-existing conditions, past treatment as well as your motivation and commitment to change. I also briefly explain the CBT approaches I use, including Inference-Based Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT). The screening is also an opportunity for prospective clients to ask questions and get a sense of who I am and how I work.

One Initial Assessment Session

If the phone screening suggests that my approach, expertise and personality align with your needs and person, I usually propose one initial assessment session to get more information about your symptoms as well as your general and family history. I also will offer initial diagnostic impressions along with a sketch of what treatment path we might take if we agreed to go further.
