About Me
About Me, Bob Safion-treatment of OCD-Anxiety across Europe

I am originally from New York City, and lived the first 22 years of my life there. I grew up in mid-town, West Side Manhattan. Typical mid-town upbringing at that time, stickball, playgrounds in Central Park, climbing fences, watching shell games on Broadway, walking up and down 42nd, before Disney, lined with ladies of the night

I left NY to travel around the US and then around Canada from living in San Fransisco to fighting forest fires in British Columbia. I subsequently moved to Boston and then to Western Massachusetts where I studied Psychology at the University of Massachusetts.

After graduation, I first worked at a residential treatment center and then with the area Latino community. My experiences with that community inspired me to move to Guatemala and enroll in a 3 month Spanish language program and then to travel and work throughout central and South America for 18 months, living in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Ecuador and Mexico. Soon after returning to the US, I moved to Barcelona, where, Spain, where I lived and worked for five years.

Upon returned to the US, I settled in Massachusetts, went on to complete a Masters in Counseling Psychology, while working with heroin and cocaine addicts at an outpatient counseling center. Degree in hand, I decided to become a therapist…….

I trained privately with Dr. Gail Steketee over a period of 18 months. Dr. Steketee, a clinical researcher and then professor of psychology at Boston University, is an internationally recognized expert in obsessive compulsive disorder. During this time, I received weekly consultation and training from Dr. Steketee in the application of the cognitive approach she and colleague Sabine Wilhelm had developed for the treatment of obsessive compulsive disorder.

When Dr. Steketee discontinued her consultation services, she introduced me to Dr. Kieron O'Connor- a clinical researcher and professor of psychology at the University of Montreal in Quebec, Canada.
